Garmin has introduced its first true HD 1080p action-camera series — the VIRB —, which will be available for purchase in September. The camera itself is IPX-7 waterproof, so it requires no housing for regular use, and its 1.4-inch color display allows for easy playback. Garmin says the VIRB records up to three hours of high-definition video on a charge; the camera features its own onboard video-enhancement features. VIRBs can capture still photos (up to 16MB) while recording video; they also allow for remote-control functionality with other Garmin products. The VIRB Elite also comes with built-in WiFi, data sensors and GPS. VIRB’s WideVü lens shoots in wide, medium and narrow modes.
